Suitable for: ages 4.5-6

Term: Fall 2024 –  August to December (15 weeks)

Course Format: Group - Unaccompanied (60 minutes)

The M.int Leaves course is designed to be taken before or alongside instrumental lessons to form an unrivalled, balanced, and comprehensive music education. Each Leaves class will be divided into two halves. In the first 30 minutes, students will be taught musicianship fundamentals inspired by the Kodály Method of musical education, a world-renowned approach that specialises in child-friendly game-based learning. Leaves will have their musical understanding of concepts and terminology reinforced through playground songs, rhymes and rhythmic movements. They will continue to build on skills learned in Sprouts, and learn to sing at pitch (both in a group and individually) and develop a strong conscious understanding of pitch, rhythm and beat.

In the latter 30 minutes of the class, students will be introduced to classical music composers across the main musical periods – Baroque and Classical in the Fall term, Romantic and 20th Century in the Spring term – and their most famous works, such as Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Beethoven’s Symphony No.5. Through the exploration of different composers and genres – such as concerto, symphony and opera – students will expand on their instrumental knowledge and theory concepts through the study of these famous compositions.
